Supporting Families. Empowering Women & Girls. Creating Community
Her Story
Maritza’s journey into service was shaped by profound personal loss following the passing of her husband, a proud military veteran who was deeply committed to serving his community through volunteerism. While navigating deep grief, she also carried the responsibility of caring for her children. Through that experience, she recognized a powerful truth: while loss is painful, having stability, support, and resources makes survival possible. She could not imagine facing the same heartbreak without a home, income, or support system—realities many families in shelters endure every day.
Inspired by her late husband’s dedication to service and driven by compassion for families navigating unimaginable hardship, Maritza founded SpreadLove718 Foundation in his honor. The foundation focuses on supporting single mothers, single fathers, and families with children, providing toiletries, clothing, food, gifts, and moments of dignity during life’s most difficult seasons.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Maritza proudly carries her roots in every aspect of her mission. As a Latina woman and community leader, she built SpreadLove718 Foundation on a philosophy she has lived by her entire life “Spread Love It’s the Brooklyn Way.” The foundation’s name reflects her commitment to grassroots outreach, cultural pride, and community-driven impact.
Through SpreadLove718 Foundation, Maritza has created more than a nonprofit—she has created a movement rooted in love, service, resilience, and representation. Her work stands as a living tribute to her husband’s legacy and a promise to families that they are not forgotten.
